Wash Park Homes for Sale
Denver's most beloved and popular park is also one of Denver's most beloved and popular neighborhoods. The 162-acre haven known as Washington Park is the centerpiece of this highly desirable community that offers not only abundant recreational opportunities, but also charming shopping and dining venues and some of the city's most beautiful and sought-after homes.
Built in 1899, "Wash Park" (as it is affectionately dubbed by locals) started out as bare land that was transformed by trees and shrubs transplanted from the nearby Rocky Mountains. Two lakes, Smith's and Grasmere, were created in the early 1900s to provide water supplies for the park's extensive landscaping. The historic boathouse built on Smith's Lake in 1912 once housed changing rooms for swimmers and now features unique office space. Today, visitors from throughout the metro area come to Washington Park to work out at the public recreation center, play tennis, volleyball or soccer in the spacious fields, jog, walk, bike or skate along the park's trails, and admire the magnificent flower gardens bursting in summer with more than 60 varieties of annuals.
The neighborhood's trademark brick bungalows began to appear between 1920 and 1930 at a time when the population of Washington Park boomed by 75 percent and residents were barred from building homes with frame construction. One street in the area, South Gaylord, was zoned for business in 1925, opening the way for what has become one of Denver's most diverse and dynamic shopping and dining districts.
Located just 10 minutes from Downtown Denver and less than five minutes from the popular Cherry Creek Shopping District, Washington Park offers an ideal combination of elegant homes, beautiful open space and easy access to the very best of Denver.
